Book Report#1

The book I read was Dragon Keeper, by Carole Wilkinson. The story is about a slave girl, Ping, who cared for the Imperial Dragon of the Emperor, and ran away with the dragon to save him from the dragon hunter, Diao. Ping becomes friends with the dragon, whose name is Danzi. They face many problems on their journey to “Ocean” (which is the ocean), and they run into some of Danzi’s old friends. During the journey to the ocean, Danzi makes Ping find a power (qi) within her, and tells her to take care of his dragon stone. In the end, they make it to the ocean safely, without Diao being able to harm them. And Ping finds out what the dragon stone really is. (You can read the book to find out what the dragon stone was for yourself! I won’t spoil the ending for you.)

Ping, the protagonist, went on the journey to the ocean because she wanted to be free from slavery, and to see how beautiful the ocean really was. She also wanted to accompany such an interesting creature as the dragon.

Diao, the antagonist, kept hunting Ping and the dragon Danzi because he wanted to sell the rare body parts and blood, for a good amount of money, to dark people like himself and others (such as necromancers, who are evil sorcerers).

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books with unexpected events popping up here and there, and adventures. This was a very good book, and I think anyone would think so too. The way that Ping and Danzi felt was described really well, and the author made you feel and see every detail. That‘s what I look for in a good novel.
